Simplex or Duplex
What's the Right Water Softener?
The best water softener depends on your water usage.
A simplex system is suitable for many homes and smaller commercial properties with lower water demand.
A duplex system is recommended where continuous softened water is required. While one vessel regenerates, the second continues supplying softened water, making duplex systems ideal for high-demand commercial and industrial applications.
Our team will recommend the most suitable solution based on your water hardness, usage and operational requirements.

FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
What does a water softener do?
A water softener removes calcium and magnesium minerals that cause hard water, helping to reduce limescale, improve water quality and protect plumbing and appliances.
How do I know if I have hard water?
Water hardness is measured in milligrams per litre (mg/l) of calcium carbonate (CaCO₃). Water below 20 mg/l is considered soft, while water above 200 mg/l is classed as hard. We can advise whether a water softener is suitable for your supply.
Should I choose a simplex or duplex water softener?
Simplex systems are ideal for many domestic properties and lower-demand applications. Duplex systems provide a continuous supply of softened water and are recommended for commercial premises or properties with high water usage.
Which brands do you install and service?
We supply, install and maintain all major manufacturers, including Fleck, Clack, Siata and Autotrol.
What are the benefits of softened water?
Softened water helps prevent limescale, protects appliances, reduces detergent usage, improves cleaning performance and can leave skin, towels and laundry feeling softer.
