Ultra violet disinfection (sometimes called UV purification) is the method of choice for protecting the majority of private water supplies from microbiological contamination in the United Kingdom. A UV disinfection system for water treatment kills bacteria (E.coli, Coliforms etc.) mould, algae and virus contamination without adding chemicals – preserving the water’s natural taste and healthy minerals.

When to Use a UV water Filtration System
Does my water supply need microbiological testing first?
We highly recommend having your water tested before any installation for uv water purification. You can use our kit for water testing or have your water professionally tested by us.
Each water supply is different and will come with challenges unique to your environment and intended use case. So the combination of filters and treatments needed will vary from location to location.
Are there any limits to UV light water purifiers?
Clear water is recommended for ultraviolet light water treatment to prevent shadowing. So is a constant power supply and a (cost effective) UV alarm to safely shutoff water supply if power should fail.
What is UV disinfection pre-filtration?
This process removes the larger particulates that cause shadowing before the water is UV treated. Water contaminants exist in multiple sizes and different filtration methods work best at different sizes. This is why a multi filtration process is generally recommended depending on your use case.
What Prefiltration Methods Can I Use with My UV Water Purifier?

Where iron is present, a dedicated iron reduction filter is installed before the UV unit. This prevents staining, improves your water quality and allows the UV system to work more effectively.
UV water treatment with pH correction

If water pH is outside the optimal range (i.e. for human consumption or agriculture), a preceding correction unit can be added. This is often installed alongside a UV system and pre-filter, for example under a kitchen sink.
