Environmental Statement
Managing Director, Geoff Nemec is a Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) and Chartered Water and Environmental Manager (CIWEM), qualifications that demonstrate the highest level of professional recognition that can be achieved by practitioners within the water and environmental sectors.
As water and environmental managers we are conscious of our social and environmental impact, both locally and internationally.
We acknowledge that the planet is experiencing a climate crisis and human activity is the primary cause. Like many other businesses we realise there is a need to make radical changes to the way we operate and we are taking positive steps to move to a more sustainable future.
Our current environmental activities include:
- Weekly recycling of all cardboard
- Weekly recycling of all paper
- Safe disposal of all UV lamps
- Recycling of glass / jars / bottles
- Refurbishment of fittings and stone gravels where applicable
- Re-use of packaging
- Low energy light bulbs installed throughout our premises
- Refill printer cartridges
- Use recycled paper where possible
Having commissioned a detailed independent environmental audit in 2007, the follow up report concluded that Springhill had taken significant steps to recycle materials used by the business on a day to day basis and that we were taking a responsible approach to reducing our carbon footprint.
As a result of the audit, we are looking at the feasibility of reducing our carbon emissions even further by adapting vehicles to run on Biofuel.
To help with the local environment, we have also adopted a section of the River Calder in Sowerby Bridge and we are committed to taking part in regular clean up campaigns run by Calder Future.
